Abstract: Forest certification, often referred to as green certification, is a controversial topic in the United States. However, certification is an expanding program in the 20 Northeastern and Midwestern states. It is an important issue for forest managers, woodland owners and the wood-using industry to follow. This article provides a brief overview, as well as discusses advantages and disadvantages, of forest certification.
